Title:Classifying small quantum symmetries
Seminar:Geometry Luncheon Seminar
Speaker:Dave Penneys, UCLA
The representation theory of subfactors generalizes the representation theory of quantum groups, and thus we think of subfactors as objects which encode quantum symmetries. In one sense, subfactors of small index are the simplest examples of subfactors, and we have recently completed the classification of standard invariants to index 5+1/4. I will give a broad overview of the small index subfactor classification program and the current state of the classification.
